What is your Elevator Pitch?

If you were stuck in the elevator with the CEO of __________ (insert name of huge company), and he could help you land that fabulous dream job, what would you say to him in those few crucial minutes, or even in those fast ticking seconds?

My lecturer talked about this in today's Marketing Research class, and I thought hard and serious about it. And honestly, my mind is still as blank as that white sheet of paper you have sitting on your printer's tray, waiting to be printed on.

I think University Education has ironically made me feel much more inadequate than I have ever felt in my entire life (up till now of course), and that really thrashed whatever girly dreams and ambitions I used to harbour and fantasise about. Instead, these two years in University really gave me a BIG FAT REALITY CHECK.

But it's okay, because food is the antidote to all misery and insecurities.

Dinner at China Square's Riccioti with Weixiang.
Best pick of the day: Prawn Linguine in olive oil (okay it had a much nicer Italian sounding name which I can't remember).

Their desserts, on the other hand, were really atrociously bad, especially their Riccioti Specialty Cheesecake, which was neither appealing to the human eye nor was it even slightly delightful to the tongue longing for sweets. I left behind three quarters of it.

Okay, school has really been tiring me out. Sleep now. Good night world. XOXO.

Peony Jade

Met Weixiang very briefly this afternoon at China Square's Spinelli for a quick coffee, where he both amused and annoyed the hell out of me by talking to me with his newly acquired Malaysian accent. Afterwhich, he went back to work and I stayed back to read my Marketing readings for a couple of hours. Why is it so hard to get through one chapter of Marketing, and yet, not able to remember much of what was read, but so easy to devour one chapter of a novel in a matter of minutes?

In the evening was Karen's 21st Birthday Dinner at Central's Sun With Moon. It was also the first time we all sat together for dinner ever since Eunice and Weilin returned from Europe. Qishan, although you are far away in Silicon Valley, you still live in our hearts.

The cake in the picture is the famed Sun With Moon's Toufu Cheesecake. It is so damn good. And as usual, I ate quite a bit, along with Claire this time, with spicy pork ramen, gyozas and cheese potatoes!

For dessert, we went to my beloved Nectarie. It was kinda my first time patronising Nectarie at night and therefore, it was really pretty packed. Like obviously. Cause it's Clarke Quay.

Today, I ordered the White Chocolate Pistachio cake and I totally loveeeee it. Yet, the best was Peony Jade, this tea that I ordered because the picture on the menu looked really gorgeous. Can you blame me? There were pretty flowers! (I totally ignored the fine print at the bottom that said, "Pictures are for illustrative purposes only".) Of course, whatever was served (as seen in the above picture), was far from what I would even call, aesthetically pleasing. But trust me, this tea is really fragrant beyond words. Remember, it is called PEONY JADE, and the best tea I have ever had so far. I was so pleased.

Got on the train with Karen and Jason. I think the both of them are really cute. They bicker so much about...I don't know, they just engaged themselves in a perpetual banter.

And guess what. The three of us, while commuting on the much trusted and efficient SMRT, actually saw a rat, YES A FREAKING RAT, scamper across the carriage, underneath the seats opposite us! Karen and I immediately let out bimbotic squeals and held our legs up. We watched the rat scurry to and fro as the other passengers on the train began assuming the position Karen and I were in, legs up. Jason then used his bag to whack the rat. Omg Jason, please remember to sanitise your bag. I was so thankful it was my stop next and I got off the train, waving goodbye to a freaked out Karen and a very calm and cool Jason.

Dreaming of a Snapper

This morning, on the way to school, on the bus, on Reader's Digest.

At this moment, with all due respect, I personally feel that this list is not annoying enough and it definitely has the potential to be expanded and be made more annoying.

There are absolutely a great many other words and phrases that people use so excessively, like 24/7 usage, up to the point where it hits someone's tipping point and then receive a snapping remark for that. Two good examples are "literally" and "ironically", which people use so extravagantly, and sometimes, under certain circumstances, misuse, in a bid to sound smarter. Doesn't that make you cringe? It's a nightmare, indeed.

At the end of the day, in my humble opinion, it is essential that each individual remains fairly unique in the way he speaks. He shouldn't of (phonetic contraction of shouldn't have) to be influenced by how the majority speaks, as afterall, it's not rocket science.

I alighted from the bus, walked to Science, bought a Latte (with one sugar) and a ham and cheese sandwich from Spinelli, strolled into my Science lecture, smiled at my charming lecturer who watched me walk in (he smiled back), and got settled on the seat at the front row. And that started my long Tuesday in school.

First Day

The day started with me dressed in black and white. I went for my first ever Science lecture in University and I was really glad to have found the correct lecture theatre without too much drama and trouble. And I couldn't have been happier to find Carrie, who is taking the same Science class as me, in that otherwise strange and unfamiliar surrounding.

I had no break today. So, I had to feed on semi solid food to get by my lessons. Yoghurt and mashed potato.

HRM back in Business ended one hour early today and I went to hang around The Deck with Huiyi. I was really hungry and the weather wasn't really cooperating. So I said to Huiyi, "Shall we go to the Upper Deck? There's the air con up there." She looked at me and said, in a slightly excited voice, "Okay!" Two seconds later, she asked me, "how do we get up there?" Omg I really cannot believe that it is her third year, and she is a Business student, and she has never been to The Upper Deck till today.

Met Dixie at Holland V after that. Coffee Bean. She looked so different today, she wore a Trucker Cap, T shirt, jeans, high cut sneakers and a sling bag, and I had to take a second look to recognise her. Only after spending the afternoon with her, and while walking to the train station, then did she tell me why she was sporting such a look today. And it was only when I knew that I started wishing that she won't be looking like today too often.

And that concluded my first day back at school.

Fly Me To The Moon

Tonight's dinner was at Morton's Steakhouse with Weixiang. For some reason which I find too cumbersome to explain and too longwinded for you to read, we started our dinner with dessert first instead of the usual appetizers.

Morton's Coffee, $22. And bloody hell, it tasted really awful. Who puts Bailey's in coffee?! I think Yakun's better, I am traditional. And I ordered cheesecake (again) which Weixiang insisted looked like the one he baked for me. Well, I guess I cannot argue with the striking resemblance of both, but, with regards to taste, those who know, know. Hahaha.

So, we began with our dinner proper after that. It was really a nice place to have a slow dinner with its dim lights and quiet surroundings. We had Lobster Bisque, Ocean Platter and Ribeye Steak, which came in a very generous serving. The Ribeye was, true to its name, one of the most succulent charcoal grill of a beef I have ever had. Everything else was pretty much palatable.

Very interestingly, both of us, after eating the Cream Spinach Oysters from the Ocean Platter, and with our lack of appreciation for that much coveted seafood, agreed unanimously that, "Oysters must be the most revolting thing to eat EVER." Just when we were expressing our disinclination towards oysters, the waiter carried one huge plate of raw oysters past us, and served it at the table behind ours. We wanted to throw up.

We hung around the poolside at the hotel after dinner for a bit before leaving. On the way home in the cab, Weixiang dropped me a message saying, "Starbucks is much better" after getting coffee there.

Initiation, Friday Night

Dinner was at Royal Copenhagen with Geok Meng and Lover.

Please go there only for cakes and tea because their main courses weren't exactly impressive. Look at how happy I was with my Blueberry Cheesecake and you know you should go there only for dessert.

After dinner, we walked all the way to Swissotel, from Takashimaya.

I like this picture (above) very much. Thanks Lover.

Official initiation. From now on, Geok Meng, you are part of us. It is really quite marvelous and at the same time, amazing, how the present totally disregards the past in which relationships are forged.

Together We Feel The Singapore Heartbeat

(Guess which National Day theme song does the above line come from)

My sister returned home early this afternoon after the National Day Celebrations at school and the two of us started to go on Youtube to search for National Day theme songs.

We then had our very own Community Singing for National Day Celebrations 2009 in our cosy study on my Polly (Polly is my mini laptop. Name inspired from Polly Pocket, for obvious reasons).

We sang, with lots of patriotic emotions and national pride, these songs.

My Generation:
Home by Kit Chan
Stars and Crescent by Mavis Hee
Together by Evelyn Tan and Dream FMz
Moments of Magic by Tanya Chua, Fann Wong (F.W.!!!) and Elsa
Where I Belong by Tanya Chua
One United People by Stephanie Sun
We Will Get There by Stephanie Sun - I was very thankful for the dance that came along with this song because it saved the Crescent population at that time from the torturous mass runs. We mass danced instead.

Her Generation:
Reach Out For The Skies by Taufik Batisah and Rui En
Island Home by Kaira Gong
Will You by God Knows Who

This year's National Day Theme Song is What Do You See by I Don't Know Who.

I had always loved community singing for National Day back in Primary and Secondary school days. For some unknown reason, I would always feel the rush of heat to my cheeks while singing with extreme zeal and zest, like some body reflex action. Is this physical body reaction evident of my love for my country?

So I Asked Myself Again

I learnt today that this fruit is called the Gooseberry. Is it pure coincidence that this is the same word as in the term "play gooseberry"? Or is there a story behind it, as Lover suggested.

Clarke Quay is really much more alluring in the day, with its lack of people and activity, giving the occasional day visitors a sense of tranquility.

Over dessert at Nectarie today, I pondered for the umpteenth time if a significant change in tastebud preferences implies any symbolic alterations, in the same degree, but in a greater context, like...in life's perspectives and choices.
Because I never used to like cakes or desserts.

All In A Week's Play

Monday 27 July 2009 - Red Cross Good Friends

We met for dinner at Yum Char at very Ching Chong (term created by Xiaoan) Chinatown where I was ecstatic about every single dish on the table because it was the first time I went out to eat after I had gotten well. I squealed in delight at every plate that the waiters served and savoured every single bite of my food.

Looks good, doesn't it? Please do not be mistaken. The green coloured water cannot be consumed. Only the top part where the ice cream and glutinous rice resided was edible. How deceiving.

We had Bubble Tea at the Koi Cafe (authentic, from Hong Kong) on Kahyin's very strong recommendation. It tasted just like......bubble tea.

Good old Kahyin and her good old antics - She has always loved putting food in the gap between her teeth, and that has never failed to make us laugh.

Red Cross Very Good Friends. We had so many stories together in those four years.

Tuesday, 28 July 2009 - "Do all Malays escape through the window?"

After spending a whole afternoon at Lover's baking and cooking, I rushed down to the Esplanade in the evening to meet Calvin and Sheng to watch the musical comedy, Sing Dollar! To be completely and blatantly honest, I thought it was pretty boring, especially during the first part of the musical comedy. The entire thing was so Singaporean and so expected to the extent that it was a bit dry. After the interval, however, I thought that things had turned for the better. The jokes were much more witty and was kinda subtly loud in addressing the issues and events that took place in Singapore. Oh, and they did a Michael Jackson thing too, which I thought was the most entertaining part of the show. We had supper nearby after the show and headed home.

(A) Meepok Soulmates

Most, if not all, of my Crescent friends would know which is my most favourite meepok stall in Singapore. I have been eating at the Queenstown Meepok Stall since I was very young and have been loving it all these years. It is cheap and good, $2.50 only and comes with 5 fishballs. I haven't eaten there for a good couple of years. So, on this fateful day, I met Zihua and Huiyi to eat our very nostalgic meepok for lunch. Following that, we made our way to Keppel Club for our afternoon swim.

We hung around after our swim at the tables by the shore and fantasised about how nice it would be if we had packed some food along with us. We were so very hungry after swimming. (Secret: We are gonna plan a Christmas party and it is gonna come true, by hook or by crook!)

Next up, check this out.

Dear Huiyi, we can so feel your pain. Ouch.

(B) After 9

After 9 doesn't mean after 9p.m. It refers to our reunion after 9 long years. It was certainly kinda heartwarming to see my Primary School friends again. We didn't do much, just hung out, ate takeouts and played stupid games. But I had fun and I am glad we did this.

Saturday 1 August 2009 - The Boyfriend Day

What we ate on Saturday between 3pm to 9pm:

Chicken Rice

Rojak

Fresh Soya Bean Milk with Fried Doughsticks

Ichiban Boshi (A complete set meal and lots of sushi)

My stomach didn't growl a single time.

We went shopping and Weixiang got me a new wallet! ((: Okay, I swear this is so gonna be the last wallet I am going to get in a long time. I promise.

I would use this for at least a year. I would.

I have had all these wonderful moments all in a week and I am so overwhelmed with happiness and love from everyone that my heart is gonna burst!
